Since 1993, a total of 21 NCAA universities have added football, with another six scheduled within the next two years. During that same time, 11 dropped football, many within California.

With its facilities and tradition, there is no good reason why UOP could not be playing in I-AA at a cost-containment level (similar to San Diego), then move up as support allows. USD plays at a roughly $400K level, averages only about 3,300 a game, and manages to bring in non-conference games against teams such as Yale, Georgetown, and Brown.

Could Pacific compete at this level? Absolutely.
