Another Nebraska outside hitter signs with Tigers

The Record

The University of the Pacific women's volleyball team added an outside hitter, signing Nebraska native Ashley Grothius to a national letter of intent, coach Jayne McHugh announced Tuesday.

Grothius, 6-foot-1, was named to the All-Superstate team as a senior at Aurora High in Aurora, Neb. She was the school's all-time leader in kills and set the school's single-season record in kills. The Huskies were ranked No. 3 statewide and were Central 10 champs in 1999 and 2000.

Her club team, Nebraska Junior Under-18, qualified for the Junior Olympics and won the Northern Lights Tournament.

''With the loss of three outside hitters from last year -- Clarissa Bonner, Jamie Hamm and Courtney Miller -- Ashley will add needed depth for us this year,'' McHugh said. ''Ashley knows how to get kills and her presence at the net will help us right from the start. We are all really excited to have Ashley in the program.''
