美国明年可能会缩减三分之二的H-1B签证

由于9·11是美国经济雪上加霜，并导致美国国内接连不断的出现裁员大潮，持H-1B签证在美工作的外国人压力也越来越大。最近，美国一名共和党议员提议，大幅度缩减发放H-1B的数量。

　　这名议员名叫坦克里多，他提议将下一个财年的H-1B签证发放量从现行法律规定的19.5万缩减到6.5万，缩减幅度为2/3。美国之音VOA引述坦克里多的话表示，美国人现在希望赴美的外国人数量能够大量减少。过去电脑等高科技行业人手不足，需要一些外国人，但是现在这些宝贵工作机会应该留给美国人自己。坦克里多还表示，现在相当多的美国人都愿意、也能够从事外国员工的工作。

　　H-1B签证是一种可以在美国合法工作的临时工作签证，它最多可以给予签证持有者在美国工作6年，但签证持有者一旦失去工作，就不能继续留在美国。美国曾经因为计算机等高科技行业的技术员工供不应求，增加了H-1B签证的发放数量。在9月30日截止的2001财年中，美国移民局批准了16.32万个H-1B签证。
