Subject: The bet line WAS rather childish sounding

I cringed when Romney made that remark -- I think I might have made a bet like that in junior high, but in the more important area of discussion, count me as a true believer in Romney's basic character, abilities and background.

I've known a few Mormons and generally I like and respect them as people even though I think their religion more than a tad strange. I don't think Romney is evil or cruel, just rich and and a bit out of touch with average joe's because he's not an average joe and never will be.

I see Romney as intelligent, diligent, well organized, hugely ambitious, a bit egotistical (as is typical of anyone who would run for President of the United States) and quite capable of the typical "puffery" of politicians and salesmen. A man who holds his family, his church and the American Dream itself as something sacred and who respects ordinary people who also strive to live the Dream as he has, but is willing to compromise on his other values in order to honor and uphold those things he considers most important. Thus he has a certain willingness to flip flop on aborion, gay marriage, yada yada, because those aren't the things that are closest to his heart

Digressing a bit, my own BSBA was in management, not that I was cut out for such work, but despite my far less than stellar academic record and degree of enthusiasm for business management, I did finish in the top 4% on the GMAT and based off everything I learned in business school I absolutely respect Romney's accomplishments and not just because of Bain Capital Management.

Looking in other aspects of his record, the turnaround of the Olympics Committee was terrific as was balancing the Massachusetts budget working WITH Democrats and all those years he spent working as a management consultant BEFORE he was chosen to go from Bain Capital to lead Bain Capital Management has undoubtedly given him deep insight into a lot of different industries that most people and especially most politicians simply never will possess and of course a deep understanding of the principles of management. (Jimmy Carter would have failed management 101 because of his insistence on doing EVERYTHING personally. Barack Obama's huge ego wherein he thinks no one else is capable of performing a given job as well as him, even an expert has caused him similar problems.)

One last thing and really this is the most important part of my thought process on Romney... If you could sit Romney, Perot and Trump all down in a room and they all told you to do the same thing to save your own business enterprise would you listen to them?

I know I'd at least give whatever they said some VERY serious thought. You got two billionaires and a guy with a couple of hundred million weighing in and they're all trying to tell us something about the economy. In one way or another all three of those hugely successful businessmen have said that America's industrial base (which IS the very essence of our jobs and our prosperity as a nation) is in trouble because of so called free-trade) and all three of them have cared so much about that issue that they've pondered running for or ran for President.

America has lost it's status as the number one manufacturer in the world for the first time in over 150 years. Isn't there cause for some alarm and what is Obama doing about it? Members of his own party from industrial states are trying to tell him what free trade in general and China in particular is doing to this country, yet Obama won't listen.

This is NOT a Republican or Democrat issue, it's an American issue and let me tell you the large multi-national corporations aren't the ones who will be hurt when all our jobs go off to China -- it's the working people of this country. We need to put our differences aside before it's too late.

For my part, I'm putting aside the social issues I care about because I love this country, I care about my fellow Americans and I'm scared to death of what is being done to us. The whole Republican/Democrat schtick means nothing next to that.
