I understood what you were saying, and it makes intuitive sense. However, the original LASIK equipment/protocols also were intended to make the doc less of a factor but problems arose. Now, they get an even newer generation of equipment and a brand new learning curve, which could again spell short-term and isolated trouble. I have no idea about the new generation -- maybe it works almost the same as the prior iterations and thus little learning curve.

Some in the medical establishment jump head first into the world of new gadgets and more minimally invasive procedures without a) first finding out if the new approach is more effective and b) receiving the full amount of training. Personally, I don't care what we're talking about -- including robotic surgery -- the most important piece of the puzzle will always be the surgeon.

Basically, my post was less a direct response to your post than my contribution to the entire thread -- with your post being the most logical entry point.
