Subject: So what's the problem?

Was at HauntedHaus last night and witnessed the demise of yet another cool club. I don't understand. It used to be that everyone complained that they needed something new. Once they got it, they failed to attend.

Why do clubs at the Monte Cristo fail?

1. Beautiful location
2. Good if not great music
3. The dance floor is more than adequate
4. It's on top of a building
5. It's in a nice part of town
6. It's not as far as Long Beach

So what then? Is everyone so devoted to Mike and Bruce that they can't stray from the lame clubs which remain oddly popular? Are the cool gothic clubs seeing their final days? Is the scene so riddled with posers that the memory of Helter Skelter cannot live again in another club? I think something is missing. I think a formula (like the one Helter had) needs to be found again. This problem does not only affect clubs at Monte Cristo. Any new club sees it's fair share of dwindling attendance. Something needs to be done because I refuse to give up on this. While Abysnthe plays great music, the dance floor is too small. Other clubs? I really don't like hanging out with the vampires. The deathrock clubs? Release the Bats is too far and only once a month. Shadowrealm is only once a month and lately it seems the music has something to be desired.

There is an essence of hierarchy going on in the scene. It seems that if a club doesn't have the Mike & Bruce or Jason Lavitt seal of approval it fades into obscurity. Now, do we have enough people who feel the same way I do? I honestly don't think so. It doesn't seem there are enough out there to fill a club anymore. Maybe there is. Anyone else have any thoughts?

Sincerely yours, Cinka

p.s. does this mean the black out party is no longer happening?
