Change is the only constant. Don't websites that keep changing sometimes drive you crazy? There's one I know of, the forum background, the fonts and colors, kept changing so much, it was ridiculous. The webmistress acted like it was her own personal playground. Lucky she didn't lose everyone. Maybe you've been there?

Patty, whatever experimentation you may have done, it was well worth it, because your site has one of the nicest color schemes I've seen anywhere. Very warm feeling, there!
Anything good, went through the trial and error process, to get there!

Oh I'm really glad to hear that! I was hoping my trying to improve the forum wasn't upsetting folks..I'll keep that in mind though. And I always welcome comments and suggestions, so if something really is bothering you, feel free to let me know.

Patty, the only problem I have with your forum is not your fault. I forget I have to refresh every screen every time, same thing happens here. I miss new messages, but that's cause I have a good forgetter.

Gee, maybe one of you should have a forum for forum keepers. Place to share info and all. I could contribute a few things I've come across. If someone starts one, hope I know about it. The most important thing I've learned is that you have a whopping 10 seconds to get someone to decide whether to look at your page. If they don't like what's there, off they go. The exception is if you are looking for something specific and know you'll have to wait for it to load. True to that myself, I've noticed that if I don't like the way something looks, like yucky colors, I don't go there. Those colors aren't here or on That's Life, BTW! Also, GIF files load faster than JPGs. Keep up the good work.

Yes, a forum for discussion of these things may be quite helpful. Even perhaps incorperating simple html instructions, like making "links", changing font, posting pics ect.

Liz, do you have a website? That's interesting about gifs and jpgs, didn't know that. Wonder why that is? I'll remember that, it's easy enough to change depending on intended purpose. Some sites only allow jpg....?

I think it's really hard for individual forums to be really successful, especially starting from scratch so to speak. In part, as you say, because newcomers surf pretty aggressively...if it doesn't grab you.....awwwway you go!
But also, alot of sites are set up as places for large amounts of people, so you have a somewhat ready made success. Like the lemming-like sporatic exodus' of GW, for example. I think somewhat small forums can be really nice though, more cozy. Some folks have told me that really busy places are hard to keep up with and so much less personal. Frankly, I'm a blabbermouth and would love if folks posted more! Hopefully Garden Club can grow to be a middleground!
