I've been using the Simplicity costume pattern 8282 for both male and female costumes. These are american indian costumes. Any of the patterns in the packet are good, and they are very easy to make.

The female costume I decorate with stencile flower patterns.

The male costumes I use the shirt and pants, but also I use a shortened version of the dress to make military tunics. They look great.

For moccisins I bought a LOT of moccisin house shoes, (they cost only about $3 a pair.) and extended them with brown material to make knee length footwear. They also look really good and are easy to make.

Everyone uses a belt. I use a strip of material about two inches wide and about six feet long. It's just wrapped around the actresses/actors waist. The belt is definetly needed because the costumes are really baggy, besides they look cool.

The military costume is dark green pants and a black tunic. Tunic sleeves go to just below the elbows. I stencil a cardinal on the front of the tunic. And they wear a red belt.
