ALI LARTER TRANSCRIPT
Movie: Varsity Blues
1/13/99

ROUGHCUT'S DAVID POLAND: Movie Chat would like to welcome Ali Later to Movie Chat.

VARSITY BLUES' CO-STAR ALI LARTER: Hi!

DAVID: Let me ask the first question. What color is your hair tonight?

ALI: (laughs) Are you serious?

DAVID: Yeah. I saw you with different colored hair in every interview.

ALI: I'm back to my normal color, which is like brown and blonde. It was red for a movie I made called Next To You. I played a grunge girl. So I'm back to my normal color. Thank God. I want to say "Hi" to my sister Kristen. And that I love her so much. And I wish I were closer to her!

DAVID: Okay... let's take an audience question.

imajas asks: If you're taking questions yet, I have one... would Ali be my g/f... Oh yeah, I'm just kidding, but my real question would be what drew her attention to this script?

ALI: I thought it was a really fun film with lots of interesting characters to play. And I thought that Darcy would be interesting because she was complex in the way that she was extremely desperate to get out of town. And I enjoyed doing the whipped cream scene because it justified my character.

DAVID: One chatter wrote in early to find out if you were really naked under there...

ALI: Actually, no, they put pads over my breasts and cut up underwear and taped it to me so you could see the line of my body.

Astroboy54 asks: Ali how old are you and when did you start acting?

ALI: I'm 22 and I started three and a half years ago when I moved to L.A. from New Jersey.

Joe_Bocc2 asks: Ali, that is a very pretty name to go with a very pretty woman

ALI: Awwww... thank you, you are a sweetheart. I'm glad that they like me...I'm stoked that they like my character. If that's what they like (laughs)

Spinky427 asks: Did you enjoy working with the cast and crew on Varsity Blues?

ALI: I felt blessed to get this movie because Amy Smart has been my best friend for 5 years, so to work with her made it the easiest possible experience. This was my first movie. And I get very nervous before a scene. So to have her support on set was a dream

DAVID: How did you two hook up?

ALI: We actually were modeling and lived together in Milan

DAVID: Not too many 22 year olds can say that.

(ALI laughs.)

DAVID: Did you both decide to act at the same time?

ALI: Actually, she started acting at 16 or 17. She inspired me to become an actor because she loved it so much

bdwystarBKS asks: What do you do to stay so pretty and in shape? Brandon/Ohio

ALI: I'm glad that you think I'm in shape. I work out a couple of times a week. I try to eat right. But at least once or twice a month I eat a whole pizza and watch movies on TV. I'm all about moderation.

DAVID: A whole pizza?

ALI: A whole medium cheese pizza from Dominos.

jamesb1516 asks: How did you feel about doing the whipped cream scene in varsity blues? Did you have to be coerced into doing it?

ALI: Actually, the whipped cream scene is the reason I wanted to do the movie. It showed that my character was really a vulnerable little girl desperate to get a better life.

Astroboy54 asks: Ali can I start a fan site dedicated to you?

ALI: I would love that! I would be his Astrogirl. (giggles)

aware_rep asks: Did the high school in Varsity Blues remind you of your high school if not what was your high school like, and which character in the movie do you relate yourself the most when you where in high school?

ALI: I grew up in New Jersey in a suburban neighborhood. The high school was football oriented but I was modeling at 13 and I was going to New York. I wanted to see the world, like Darcy, so I didn't have much interest in being at school.

Joe_Bocc2 asks: I bench press 255 lbs, how much an you bench.

ALI: I don't even know. I don't do that stuff. That's for beefcakes.

Tigress_Lily asks: What things did you like or dislike about Georgetown, Texas, and the surrounding areas where Varsity Blues was filmed?

ALI: I enjoyed working in Austin because they have a great happy hour and the people were genuinely nice. Living in L.A. you see how many jaded people there are. Being with those people in Austin made me want to be a better person and made me want to be not so quick to judge.

Pinkey_13 asks: Ali, I want to become a star on movies later in life, can you give me some words of encouragement. And also do you have to attend a college??

ALI: Stay true to yourself and as close to your family as possible. Because my family is the only thing that keeps me grounded. I see how crazy life can become and I think it's important to study and do what you what you love to do. And in turn, it will make you a better actor.

DAVID: Do you want to say anything else to your sister here?

ALI: Kristin, you are such a hot babe (giggles)

DAVID: Where can fans write you?

ALI: I really have no idea I didn't know that I had any fans. This is all so new to me

WhippedCreamLarter99 asks: David, ask if she's single! Please!

ALI: Ummmm... single, but I have no time for boys and relationships. I'm all about my family and career right now.

daisy4_69 asks: Are you looking to star in any upcoming movies, or are you going to stick to sitcoms?

ALI: I actually don't have much interest in doing more TV. I did a film in November called Next to You that comes out this fall. . As of now, I'm just looking at different projects.

DAVID: Did you feel more of a bump from this or from the Just Shoot Me episode?

ALI: I guess both, in different ways. Just Shoot Me was my first TV guest shot. It was a great feeling just to be hired. And Varsity Blues, that was my first feature film. And, this is on a way grander scale. But inside, it's kind of the same feeling. It's so exciting that people want you to work for them.

august_jewel asks: If you could change one thing you did in high school what would it be?

ALI: I would slow down. I was so anxious to get out of town, to move on in life. I don't think I gave high school a chance. I started going to NY, everything was so exciting. Cherry Hill just didn't interest me anymore

blueicezero asks: Do you spend any time on the internet Ms./Mrs. Larter?

ALI: I'm thinking of buying a computer in the next month

Scromping_You asks: Is Paul Walker really hot?

ALI: He is so beautiful it's painful

Biachabarf asks: I am in school becoming a chef, what kind of food do you like?

ALI: I love Italian food. I love to eat and I love to cook. And my favorite thing to cook are soups and pasta sauces.

Flirty_girl2_2000 asks: Who is your fav actor and actress???

ALI: Susan Sarandon and Sean Penn. No question. That's the bottom line

BadExample08 asks: If you could live anywhere in the world where would it be/where is your favorite place that you have visited?

ALI: I lived on Bondhi Beach in Australia about 3 years ago and I thought it was the most beautiful, spiritual place in the world. I loved the people. But I also lived in Milan, where there's such incredible culture. I am smitten with the food and the wine and the passion of the Italian people. It would be hard for me to decide because I love so many places.

Rockstar4hire asks: Does it make you happy to keep me away from studying for my degree by getting nude in whip cream? I can't stop thinking of you.

ALI: Well, I'm glad that you enjoyed it. And I don't want to burst your bubble, but it was actually shaving cream. Not quite as tasty. (giggles)

mushmouth_ asks: Have you ever cooked crepes?

ALI: I haven't, but I loved them. Well, I actually have in a way. I made them with my friend's mother in South Philly. I do know that it's all about the timing

rotax_600 asks: What is cool about being a movie star?

ALI: That I get to do this . (laughs) It's not about being a movie star. It's that I love what I do and I love to play characters. I'm blessed that people want to watch me. That's the joy.

Astroboy54 asks: Ali do you play any sports?

ALI: Actually, I played soccer for nine years, softball, swam, dove, almost every sport when I was younger I was pretty much the tomboy.

DAVID: Are you shins still bruised?

ALI: No When I started modeling, I pretty much had to stop playing sports.

_Raven_dx_ asks: Are you a real Green Day fan?

ALI: Kind of... I'm more into Billie Holiday, John Coltrane.... Radiohead

kooderLama asks: Ali, what is the weirdest thing you have ever done @ an audition?

ALI: Hmmm... I always get really nervous before auditions. My mouth gets dry and my palms sweat and I occasionally start to stutter.

DAVID: Are you nervous performing and were you nervous modeling?

ALI: In the beginning. But that's such a surface business, all you have t do is stand there and smile. With acting, I still get nervous. But when you are in a scene, you have no time to be nervous.

DAVID: DO you take acting classes?

ALI: I did. For a year and a half at the Howard Fine Studio.

DAVID: One of The Three Stooges?

ALI: (laughs) No.

Astroboy54 asks: Ali what is you astrological sign?

ALI: I am a Pisces... a water baby

AdmiralTwiner asks: Do You have any other family?

ALI: Just my lovely older sister....

LUVANGEL19 asks: What was it like working with James????

ALI: James is quite a serious guy. He would fly back to L.A. most weekends. He was definitely committed to his work. But overall, he's a nice guy

BadExample08 asks: Is it weird seeing yourself on screen?

ALI: I actually cannot watch myself. When we had the premiere, I did the red carpet and all that. And I actually went in to the theater, but after about 10 minutes, grabbed my manager's hand and left. I wasn't comfortable with that many people judging me.

DAVID: But, how was the party?

ALI: It was great! It was ton of fun. Paramount went all out for us

DAVID: Any lasting friends form the show, other than Amy?

ALI: I actually became pretty close with Scotty Caan. He's hysterical, a wonderful actor and a great guy. I adore his friendship

DAVID: Have you met dad? (James Caan)

ALI: I have not.

HitmanBretHart78 asks: WHAT WAS THE STUPIDEST THING YOU EVER WENT AS FOR HALLOWEEN?

ALI: A Care Bear

DAVID: Were you, like 18 and in New York City?

ALI: No. (giggles) I was like six.

kooderLama asks: I heard you were a cheerleader in high school. were you?

ALI: Briefly .. in the seventh grade. I didn't stay on the team because it was more dance oriented and I'm not coordinated at all. So me and cheerleading had a very short life together.

DAVID: Like your Just Shoot Me character?

ALI: I guess. She was quite clumsy. I'm pretty clumsy when I'm not thinking about it. But, I can walk in those stiletto heels when I'm concentrating.

jenniferB580 asks: I hear you have a sister who's a 4th grade teacher?

ALI: Yeah.. she is brilliant. She's so wonderful with those kids. It keeps me in check. It reminds me how meaningless my job is. She's teaching the youth of this generation and I'm just turning little boys on. (laughs)

cartman_9869 asks: I am watching the commercial for the movie right now!!

ALI: Cool.

Timboo_01 asks: When is your birthday?

ALI: February 28, 1976

kooderLama asks: have you ever been in love?

ALI: A lot of times, I thought I was. But I looked at my parents and know that's true love. I don't think I've met the man of my dreams yet.

Princess_Of_Heaven asks: What advice would you give to someone who wanted to become an actress/actor?

ALI: Just stay committed and respect it as an art and go for it. Don't let anything stand in your way. I think that's the most inspiring show on TV. And watch The Actors Studio on Bravo. I love that show.

DAVID: Let's take one last question for Ali

Astroboy54 asks: If you weren't an actress what would you be doing?

ALI: I would definitely be working with children, because children are honest and beautiful. But I love what I do and I feel so lucky that people want to see me. And want to chat with me. And I want to thank everyone for coming to chat with me. And go see the movie on Friday because it's tons of fun. Love, Ali.

DAVID: We want to thank Ali for her time and wish her the best of luck in her future endeavors. Thanks for coming. Especially you, Astro Boy. Thank you all for coming. Great questions.
