Professor Gerry McKenna is being investigated
The University of Ulster has revealed that its vice-chancellor Professor Gerry McKenna is to be the subject of an independent investigation.
Former UK parliamentary commissioner for complaints, Sir Michael Buckley, is to begin his inquiry on Monday.

The inquiry was launched after complaints by a "whistleblower".

In a statement, university authorities said it would examine whether concerns or complaints about Professor McKenna's conduct and capability were justified.

Sir Michael was appointed earlier this month under the terms of the university's public interest disclosure policy.

Professor McKenna has been on sabbatical leave, following a period of absence on sick leave.

At present the university is headed by the acting vice-chancellor, Professor Richard Barnett.
