Apple-Oatmeal Crumbles

1 cup quick-cooking oats
1 cup Gold Medal whole wheat flour
1/3 cup packed brown sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
3 tablespoons vegtable oil
3 tablespoons reduced-calorie maple-flavored syrup
1 cup unsweetened applesauce
1/2 cup finely chopped peeled all-purpose apple
1/4 cup chopped walnuts

Heat oven to 350. Spray non-stick pan, 8x8x2 inches, with nonstick cooking spray. Mix oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, allspice and baking soda in large bowl. Stir in oil and maple syrup until mixture is crumbly; reserve 1/2 cup for topping. Press remaining mixture firmly in bottom of pan. Bake about 10 minutes or until set. Cool 10 minutes.

Spread applesauce over baked layer. Sprinkle apple over applesauce. Sprinkle reserved mixture and walnuts over apple. Bake about 15 minutes or until top is light brown; cool completely. Cut into 2-inch squares.

* Makes 16 squares.
