Subject: Tara and season 7

**A letter I wrote regarding Tara's senseless death**
**Please Joss, or anyone who can change what happened, seriously consider it. It's my honest opinion.**
To Whom it May Concern,

I am writing with concerns regarding the death of the character Tara Maclay on the show Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
This character had very humble beginnings, appearing in a scene here, a scene there. Slowly, though, the writers and producers of the show came to realize how important she was to the fans, and they began to include her in more and more scenes, both with and without her lover, Willow. The censors wouldn't allow them to show their love the way they would other couples, but still their relationship flourished and their popularity grew. Unfortunately, Tara was rarely given the respect of a regular character: always the ‘guest' star, usually used in other character's plot lines instead of her own, relegated to being just ‘Willow's girlfriend' while Riley, Anya and others integrated themselves in the Scooby gang.
Eventually, the writers and producers began to come around, and Tara became more and more important as a character. She showed strength in leaving Willow, was like a mother to Dawn, and became Buffy's confidante. The only thing left was for her and Willow to be brought back together again. Just when things were looking up for her character, there arrived every TV show's worst nightmare, and yet most frequently used plot line: a cliche.
Tara was murdered in a manner that has been repeated countless times over the decades that movies have been with us. It has been used enough times, in fact, that it has earned a name: the Dead/Evil Lesbian cliche. Just when Tara was blossoming, she fell victim to a terrible cliche, an occurrence which was promised to the fans would not take place. A show that has destroyed many other cliches, that has never become dull, that captivated its audience with exciting, interesting and human storylines, did the one thing that it had promised its fans it wouldn't.
I for one am incredibly disappointed in BtVS and all those involved in Tara's death. It was cliche, wrong, angering and unnecessary. Tara didn't need to die. If the writers couldn't find any other way to make Willow the "Big Bad," then Tara at the very least deserved to die a death worthy of her character. Buffy died bravely and by her own choice, to save her sister and the world. Joyce died symbolically, reminding the Scoobies of the harsh realities of real life, despite the demons that they must face everyday. Tara, on the other hand, was senselessly and needlessly murdered, without the chance to be brave, for no reason other than to once again become a tool in somebody else's story.
Thanks to Tara's death and the circumstances surrounding it, I will not be watching Season 7 or purchasing any Buffy merchandise. Neither will many of my friends, who share my opinion of Tara's murder. It is disappointing to see such a wonderful show reduced to using such a disgusting cliche. If you want my support of the show, and I will gladly give it, then bring Tara back. Bring her back, or find some way to make her death a meaningful one. Don't just move on and pretend that she was only important as a tool. Take the higher road, and don't cheapen her character by removing her in such a manner. Your fans, myself especially, will thank you for it.

I totally agree with your message, Tara was one of the best things that happened to buffy the vampire slayer and also to Willow she was so happy!!. Tara proved she was very much one of the 'scooby gang' she definately earned her place as a regular, with helping out everyone, she looked after dawn in a completely different way to buffy, listened to buffy when she really needed someone, got on well with xander and anya and most importantly made willow happy and was basically one of the family!. She was so nice and didnt deserve to be killed off, she was the last one to deserve that! bring her back please!! it wont be the same without her. I have always been a fan of the underdog never really liking the main person in a show, i always liked willow as she was always nice and quiet for a long time and gradually came out of her shell, so why on earth after bringing tara in who kind of took over willows shyness did she get removed just when she had come out of her shell more too? its totally unfair, everyone has grown to love tara as much as the regular's she didnt even put into the titles at the beginning which i thought was wrong as well she's been in there for a long time.
Please bring her back & make her, willow and everyone happy again.

I only watched buffy because of Tara and Willow. I loved Tara,I still do she brought life to the show. It gave it a new edge. Without her, Willow seems to be a dull, unhappy character... I'm sorry to say that. But i really miss Tara and I'm completely disappointed about her loss... She was just so adorable...
