Jerry Dunphy – White-haired, deep-voiced LA news anchor who was the inspiration for both Ted Baxter on the Mary Tyler Moore Show and Kent Brockman on the Simpsons died of a heart attack at age 80.
Wolfgang Schneiderhan – One of the 20th century’s best-known violists died at age 86.
Little Johnny Taylor – R&B blues singer who had a chart-topping R&B hit and Top 20 Pop hit with “Part Time Love” in 1963 died of undisclosed causes at age 59.
Joe Cobb – “Our Gang” child actor who played the fat kid in the early shorts died at 85 (another Robert Blake hit???)
Clarence Samuels – 40’s and 50’s blues shouter who was one of the first artists signed to Chess’s Aristocrat label died at age 79.
Dave Berg – Mad magazine writer and artist who was responsible for “The Lighter Side of…” strips in the magazine for 40 years died at age 81.


Sports
Sam Snead – One of golfers greatest players who leads in all time tour victories with 81 died after a series of “strokes” at age 89 (sorry)
Davey Boy Smith – Troubled professional wrestler died of a heart attack at age 39.


Art & Literature
Walter Lord – Author most noted for his account of the sinking of the Titanic in “A Night To Remember” died of Parkinson’s disease at age 84.
Dr. David Abrahamsen – A forensic psychiatrist best known for his analysis of serial killer David Berkowitz in “Confessions of Son of Sam” died at age 98.
Niki de Saint Phalle – Pop sculptor known for her bizarre work in the 60’s & 70’s died of pulmonary failure at age 71.


Politics and Social
James Chichester-Clark (aka Lord Mayola) – Former prime minister of Northern Ireland died at 79.
Sir John Gorton – Former prime minister of Australia died at 90.
Chandra Levy – Washington intern whose remains were found in a D.C. park after being missing for 14 months. She was 24 at the time of her disappearance.
Christina Cock – The Australian woman who was the world’s second oldest person died at 114.


Business & Science
Boyce McDaniel – A physicist and member of the Manhattan Project team that developed the atomic bomb used in WW2 died of a heart attack at age 84.
Stephen Jay Gould – Noted Harvard paleontologist who played himself in an episode of the Simpsons died of cancer at age 60 (yet another death of a Simpson voice)
