George Sidney – “Mr. MGM Musical” who directed movies such as “Bye Bye Birdie” “Show Boat”, “Anchors Aweigh” and “Annie Get Your Gun” died of lymphoma at 85
Otis Blackwell – Legendary songwriter of “Don’t Be Cruel”, “Handy Man”, “All Shook Up” and “Return to Sender” died of a heart attack at age 70
Kevyn Aucoin – Heralded makeup artist of models and actresses died at age 40 from a metabolic disorder.
Michael Todd Jr. – Son of famous producer who himself was most famous for producing the “Smell-o-Vision” movie “Scent of Mystery” died of lung cancer at 72
Jacques Mapes – Hollywood set director on films such as “Singin’ In The Rain” and “Hunchback of Notre Dame” died at age 88
Howard Merrill – Silent film child actor and later screenplay, Broadway and television writer and producer died at age 85.

Seattle Slew – One of the greatest racing horses ever who won the Triple Crown in 1978 died at the ripe old age of 28.
Dan Devine – Former college and NFL coach and athletic director at Univ. of MO who won a national championship as a coach at Notre Dame in 1977 died at age 77.

Pim Fortuyn – Colorful Dutch political figure gunned down at age 54 ten days prior to elections (word is that both he and his party will be big winners anyway)
Hugo Banzer – Both former dictator and later elected president of Bolivia died of lung cancer at 75
Linda Lyon Block – Political extremist convicted of killing a policeman in 1993, she became the first woman executed in Alabama in 45 years. She was 54.

Katherine Albertson – Wife of late grocery store magnate Joe Albertson who was known for her philanthropy died at 93
Paul Klipsch – inventor and founder of Klipsch Audio Technologies and a pioneer in audio technology died at age 98
William Tutte – Mathematician and member of the Enigma code-breakers who in WWII were able to decipher German communications died of heart failure at 84.
