George Cates – Lawrence Welk’s musical director for 30 years who recorded “Moonglow/Theme From Picnic”, a top 10 hit in 1956, died at age 90.
Ray Stricklyn – Stage actor and later publicist best known for his award-winning performance as Tennessee Williams in “Confessions of a Nightingale” died at 70 of emphysema.

Ed Curd – Bookmaker credited with developing point-spread betting, died at 98.
Sam Walton – Sad story of former NJ Jets Superbowl player found dead as a homeless vagrant at age 59.
DeWayne Bonner – College basketball player at Tulsa best remembered for his errant pass that allowed Louisville to tie and eventually win a 1996 NCAA game died of cancer at age 28.

David Reisman – Sociologist and author who wrote the perennial best seller “The Lonely Crowd” which categorized people as “inner directed” and “other directed” died at age 92

Joe Bonanno – One of the most powerful organized-crime figures beginning with the boot-legging days in the 20’s until the late 1960’s who was never indicted, died at age 97.
Diane Pretty – Paralyzed woman who unsuccessfully fought for the right-to-die in Britain died at age 43.

Joseph Steiner – Just weeks after Mattel founder Ruth Handler’s death, the co-founder of Kenner Products toy company dies of a heart attack at 95.
James McFarland – Former General Mills CEO responsible for diversifying GM’s products beyond grain and cereal died at age 90.
Kimberly Miles – Lung transplant patient who 2 years ago received once unthinkable live tissue donation from both her sister and a friend died at age 33.
