I was gonna suggest something like that, too... But she beat me to it. Anyhow, I've done a recent report on the Great Pyramid of Giza (Khufu's pyramid) and lotsa stuff showed up that I think I should mention:
1 - Pyramids honored the pharohs. I believe pharohs were only male, but whatever. Pharohs chose different places to build their pyramids. Pyramids were only used as burial chambers - not as castles, fortresses, etc. They could have possbily been beacons to the gods. All 'underbeings' of pharohs in Egypt thought their pharoh was Osiris, an egyptian god - and his wives were possibly thought to be Isis, an Egyptian goddess... I read alot about ancient egyptian burials, and the procedures (opening of the mouth ceremony, performed by the oldest son of the pharoh, and so on and so forth) the sealing processes, etc.
2 - There are several theories of pyramid building - some say slaves built it, while others say that the craftsmanship is so good (blocks so close together, etc.) that they weren't built by people in slavery, but rather people that liked to build, and build well... Perhaps slaves that figured that if they built well, they would be honored by the gods in another life/afterlife?
3 - I personally think that besides slaves, regular people, pharohs and such, there should also be carpenters, and people that design pyramids and buildings (engineers? I don't think they were called engineers back then...). I personally think magic should be kept out of it - magic doesn't seem to mix with ancient Egypt. Research it more, like daily life and pyramid building, and work from there - keep it realistic. I agree with the dominance thing - a sort of ranking system would be kewl, with things you 'earn' with points (a better title, land, bigger dwelling, etc.) Warriors would be another thing - they'd need protection from bandits and thieves and raiding countries.
4 - along with the warrior thing, I think you should expand it. Not only have ancient Egypt, but other ancient cultures as well (Greece, Rome, etc.) - they'd be set up in different ways, ruler-wise, but they'd fight each other, to make it more interesting, cuz those countries were around back then, and it wouldn't be nice to ignore them... lol...

That's my opinions on this... I think it's a great idea, and needs a bit more fine-tuning before becoming a game, but hey, what doesn't?
That's all...
