The story that I remember, Michael was in charge of Section (or Oversight), there was no Madeline nor Operations. I don't remember how/why he returned to Section or if in this skewed section he never left. Adam has just finished University and is about to start working... Sorry for so little details but is an old story, I read in some site where the story was already completed.
