Oh, Elara, I so fully share your pain! DAMN Joss for screwing up my values and making me see *all* redemption as evil, for making me unable to appreciate valid good tragic writing when I see it, for creating the redemptiona vultures who rip apart every shred of the show's decency and make me regret the moments that I honestly want to love.

"I wanted to see how far they could take her."

Elara, I know, but... How far do you honestly think they *could* take her, before they made her as screwy as Spike? I almost think it's good that Darla died beautifully, tragically, and *realistically*-- we will always remember her as the vampire she was and never have to talk about Old Darla and New Darla (Bradette? lol) like we do with Spike. As Bullocks said, Darla/Angel(us) truly is a ship of the past, and that's where we'll ship them. A present-day Darla/Angel romance would have been strained at best, and I think the love and sheer *understanding* that passed between them in the moments before her death last night was the most beautiful present day example of Da/A love that we could hope for.

Of course, I'll miss her like crazy (I already do, and I was hysterical about her death last night, my god...) and at times I'll wish that she was back purely for my own selfish reasons... But I think that perhaps what happened really was for the best.

I feel rotten saying that though. ;-/
