Subject: Should elementary school teachers from English speaking countries teach in local secondary schools?

There came such an American last year. He taught elementary students back in the US. Secondary 6 students whom were taught by him dispised him for they found him teaching something wrong --- they looked up from the dictionary and found flaws in his teaching.

To my observation, he doesn't appearn to know much about phonics. He's not able to recognized phonetic transcription. Say the /ae/, /a/ and /D/ for example.

Accent is just a minor problem, or none at all, but not pointing at /hDt/ for the word hot and pronouncing it in the American way, ie /hat/. It's okay to say that without the phonetic transcriptions on the blackboard, or simply he's associating the wrong sound with the transcriptions in front of students who think they are learning something.

What do you think?
