Looks good. I did that with the front and back cover off
a pedestal fan one time. On the cages with pans and wire
bottoms you can put in shavings deep enough to cover the
wire bottom.
Years ago I made enough cages that I bought a 50' roll of
1/2" x 1" wire 36" wide. I was making 3 piece cages. I
would take 1" x 3" boards and screw them together with
the wire sandwiched between for a bend line guide. I
made three bends and had only one corner to attach with
"C" clips. I then made a top and bottom for them. They
are free standing with no frame and very sturdy.
I also made an extension that set on top of an aquarium
from 1/2" x 1" wire one time.
