Any chance you have changed perfume, hand lotion, bath
soap, hand soap, laundry soap, make up, meds, etc.
recently? All of these have been known to cause very tame
bonded squirrels to become biters. They trust their nose
over their eye sight and if you don't smell right, you
just aren't who they thought you were. I know he is past
puberty, so that isn't the problem. If he is from the
southern US he could be in breeding mode this time of
year. Cleaning the cage with a new cleaner, changing
nesting material, or nesting box might cause it, too.
Usually behavior changes are a result of changes of some
kind.
I have a male about 4 years old that was bottle raised
by someone else and virtually not touched for several
years. I can still pick him up and he makes no effort
to nip me. He likes to run up an arm and out the cage
when you feed them. He started doing that this summer.
So far, every time he's done that this year I can just
pick him up and put him back when I track him down. I
had a female under similar circumstances that was the
same way. Once they get to be an adult and don't mind
being handled, they seem to stay that way. But, then,
your group of flyers seem to defy logic... lol
