Subject: Nest Boxes

My flyers have started to gnaw on the inside wall of
their nest boxes. Some now have holes through the side
or the side and back. They have never done this in the
past. Some of the boxes are around 10 years old. These
they are gnawing are new boxes made of different plywood
than my old ones and the new ones were not treated with
Thompson's Water Seal. They are finch nesting boxes. Any
one else seeing this happen? They still get their hard
shelled nuts. The most gnawing is done by nursing moms.
