In reply to: Rush 's message, "Realizing that he was intruding rather callously on their reunion, he cleared his throat and backed away." on 14:34:49 04/28/03 Mon

She felt torn in half: a part of her did not want to leave Rush to be by himself, a part of her felt guilty for leaving him. But another part of her, a more persistent part, wanted more than anything to be with Desert Fox. How could she choose between the two, a childhood friend whom she once took for granted as being dead and the other, the first horse who had welcomed her back home. And in a most delightful manner. How could she decide, she didn’t want to hurt either of their feelings. And yet, somehow, her heart had already made the decision for her.

“I’m sorry Rush, please believe me when I say that I am. And thank you for understanding what I have to do. I’m counting on you to fill me in on everything when I get back, I want to know the going-ons of this herd and there just doesn’t seem to be a better horse to ask than you. Or a more obvious choice.”

Her well-chiselled head turns toward Desert Fox and she smiles, rather mischievously; an indication that she was up to no good.

“Between you and I, I’m glad you’re here to keep an eye this one. I feel a hundred times better knowing that you’re here to keep him out of trouble. God only knows what kind of trouble he would have gotten himself into if you hadn’t been. He might not like to admit it, but he’s still as much of a colt as he used to be. Except only now he’s much taller. Which means that I’ll have to work even harder.”

She didn’t know whether or not she’d be able to return either; it would take a great deal of will power to leave their private paradise behind, if they did in fact find one, and come back to civilization. But they would manage. Maybe they’d stay there forever, build a grass hut to live in, eat coconuts all day long and swing on vines to get from one place to another. That wouldn’t be so bad, would it? Make they’d end up living like Tarzan and Jane.

“So then my darling, where to? You lead the way; you’ve been here longer than I have. You must know somewhere secluded where we can go. And don’t worry about losing me, I’m one step right behind you.”
