Oh well, so much for good first impressions. And as for her speech being somewhat lengthy, at least it exceeded more than one or two sentences. Her eyes did not retain any of their former warmness but the smile never left her face; she would not allow Magnolia to see how taken aback she was by her so called ‘white lie.’ What did it matter that she was lying through her teeth? Charity no longer had to bother listening to her; she did not have time for such childishness. There was hardly enough time in the day as it was without being lied to. She could understand if Magnolia did not wish to talk about her shyness, but why out-rightly lie about it? Why not pretend that she hadn’t heard the question, and simply change the subject? Or better yet, why not tell her exactly how she felt? That she did not think it was any of her business, and would she please stop talking about it. Why lie?
