I would not want to park my wipers on a rough surface, nor would I want them to rub over one. That's because the edge of the blades has to be very "sharp" in order to wipe the water off without streaks. I usually clean them manually whenever I clean the windshield. And every now and then I replace them. They are not THAT expensive...

BTW: On our recent drive from LA to the Bay Area I missed the intensive washer solution for the first time. After a while we had so many bugs on the glass, that the regular wiper/washer combo had no chance to clear it (just smear it). Now I know what it's been designed for...German style Autobahn driving!!! ;-)
