Subject: S4 alternator cooling hose & sensor

While replacing broken left front fender inner liner (plastic), I discovered the alternator vent hose laying in the cavity under the headlight. It has a large guage red wire (probably from the disconnected aftermarket alarm)routed inside the tube. A double half-circle clamp was also laying loose in the cavity. I can't figure out where the hose and clamp properly fit. I want to remove the wire and restore function of the cooling tube. Any help appreciated.

The hose is clamped on to the forward the wheel well cover that you removed to get into the cavity. As I recall the clamps has two half rings. The hose end loops through the loops so that the open end is pointing down through the outer ring. You should see a hole or two for the bolts that hold thge clamp. The AC tmep sensor is in the hose, as you found. I don't know what the other wire could be.

The alternator cooling pipe connects to the metal cylinder piece which houses the A/C temperature sensor and is secured by a jublee clip to the metal cylinder. A similar diameter cross section of cooling pipe attaches to the other side of the temperature sensor cylinder and again is secured by a jublee clip. This section of pipe , is formed in the shape of an inverted "U" with the open end pointing down inside the area at the front of the LHS fender.

The inverted "U" section of pipe is secured by the double half circle clamp and this is attached to the inside of vertically plastic division by a single bolt and nut.
The end of the cooling pipe should come below the clamp by a couple of inches.

The temperature sensor has two wires attached and end at the connector which fits into its female connector which is clamped to the body subframe which forms the inside of the fender.

I cannot recognise the large red wire that you mentioned, however the headlight, fog light, driving light and the indicator light wiring is also located in this area, so be careful if you intend to remove red wire.
