Subject: transmission leaking

I just went down to my garage after a two week trip to find my '86 Auto leaking transmission fluid EVERYWHERE! It appears to be coming from the gasket. Please advise as to the wisdom of trying to swap the gasket myself. I already know of a torque converter leak, but that is not where it is coming from.

If you mean the pan gasket, try this link. You can get a auto/trans maintenance kit from the big 3 for about $25. (Comes with gasket and filter.)

Piece of cake to do it yourself if you've got jack stands and stuff. Don't forego a torque wrench for tightening up the bolts--you don't want to over-tighten them; it'll bend the pan. Good Luck!

BTW - Are you sure it's not from the last time you drove it? If you're fluid level was high or low (and foamed) it may have blew out the overflow. You can read more about that here:
