Subject: Synthetic Oil info
In reply to: SteveG 's message, "Oils" on 13:24:18 11/26/01 Mon

A Mobil 1 15w50, for instance, will flow better than a 5 weight dinorsaur oil, and because all synthetic molecules are smaller and even (compared to irregular molecules of the dinosaur oil) it provides superior flow (and will therefore find any leak you may have in your motor quicker than dinosaur oil will).

That's the basics. Mobil 1, for instance is superior than dino, and it offers better protection in the event you drive it hard someday or overheat, etc.

The 15-50 flows down to minus 60 degrees, and it is fine to use during cold weather. The synthetic will seep past valve seals on a worn engine and provide a puff of blue smoke upon start up, which will go away immediately upon start up.

Hope this helps,

P
