Subject: Pony Express under New Management!

MKM Racing Promotions, LLC, is pleased to announce the acquisition of the races formerly organized by Rodger Ward’s Classic Auto Racing Society, or CARS. Rodger and Sherrie Ward, the owners of CARS, regret they are no longer able to effectively promote and manage the racing events, due to family concerns and Rodger’s health, but are pleased and enthusiastic about the transition to MKM. “We love the races and we love the racers who come to them,” Sherrie said recently, “and we are very happy to know that under MKM’s management, they will continue to be enjoyed by all.”

MKM is based in Las Vegas, NV, and is not new to the Open Road Racing Scene. Many of the racers know us well, as we are racers, too: Mike Borders (M), Keith Uddenberg (K), and Marsha Borders (M). Those of you who do know us, know that we love our sport and are dedicated to safe, exciting events. In 2002, we have a full slate of great roads and activities confirmed. The inaugural event is the Bonneville 100, a new two-way race on Highway 93A out of Wendover, NV, on June 23, 2002. This road is beautifully maintained (with Federal highway funds) and very, very fast, and just wait until you see the 2-mile sweeper in the middle! Then, on two successive weekends, we are holding our signature event, the Pony Express 100, on July 28, 2002, followed by the challenging Gambler’s Run Twin 50, our second two-way event, on August 4, 2002. These two roads are also in excellent condition, promising some record-setting speeds. For each event, a section of the race road will be set up for practice and rookie qualifying, to stretch out your machines before Sunday. We’ve got lots of new plans to keep you busy on race weekend, too; the cities of Battle Mountain and Elko are working with us to plan some special midweek activities, and we are working on some other car-type activities as well for everyone to enjoy on Friday and Saturday.

MKM is pleased to announce the return of Ryan Flaherty as Race Director, along with Jeff Moore and the rest of the excellent tech and safety team from last year. Those of you who know us know we are very serious about racer safety, and you could not ask for a better team of experienced professionals than this group! We are also working to improve and streamline registration and Tech inspection, and will be bringing a 44-foot race support trailer to serve as our nerve center on race weekend.

During the next several weeks, while we are reorganizing, expect to see several changes to the website and update announcements on the 2002 events. We will be putting out LOTS of new information in the next few weeks, so keep your eye on the message board and website. Registration packages will go out to all of the racers on the mailing lists in January. If you are not registered from a previous race in 2001 and would like a packet, email Mike at mgborders@hotmail.com and we’ll send you one. We are now administering the message board, too, so feel free to ask us anything. As we develop the new website, email addresses and formats will change, but we will always be reachable. So, if you want to race on the best-conditioned roads, with the best support team in ORR, with the greatest group of racers in the world, make plans to join us this year. Believe me when I say we’re going to have a GREAT time, and you will only have yourself to blame if you don’t show up!
