Subject: squeal from front end when turning right

Thanks in advance for the help, ya'll. Here's the problem:

I hear a squeal from the front end when turning the steering wheel right. Not when I turn the wheel left, only right. Also, this squeal occurs when the car is turning left, but I am turning the steering wheel right (e.g. coming out of the turn). Applying the brakes doesn't alter the squeal. The squeal does not occur when the car is not moving, so it's probably not the belt. I just did a brake job (pads and rotors, all 4 wheels), but since the squeal isn't altered in pitch or volume by the application of the brakes, I tend to think this isn't the problem.

Could this be a wheel bearing? I don't understand why wheel bearing noise would only occur when turning the wheel to the right.

Or is this a steering rack issue?

Or something else altogether?

By the way, the car is a 1987, 5-speed.
