just to add a bit more info:

I tried one of those polishing kits from eastwood and was happy with the results. curious cat I am started to research more and came up with an even cheaper polishing kit from JCW (again, my fav low buck source). The DIY job was very messy, labor intensive job but sometimes you have to go for it. good luck on whatever you decide!
