The Value and Consistency of doing Gongyo everyday has helped me get through College Classes, and with Losing Weight, it just takes Strength and Commitment and also to Study the Gosho, and seeing Examples of people that have gone through alot of Stuff, by doing Gongyo every morning and Evening, I've experienced great Victory in my Life, especially during this past School Year.

What do you think of the short gongyo format? I notice we didn't follow that for Kosen Rufu Gongyo on New Year's Day. I think it's O.K. maybe for just shakubuku meetings (are there such things?) but to establish a strong practice you have to do a full gongyo. So do we do three gongyos that day? Morning, full evening and short evening on meeting nights?

Dylan's Crescendo group is going to be performing (with other performing groups) Sunday April 28. It's the 750th anniversary of Nichiren chanting Nam Myoho Renge Kyo for the first time. There is going to be a nation-wide diamoku toso from 12 to 1. That's all there was going to be but the youth groups in Tacoma wanted to have some performances - then it got out of hand and since we're the only area that had anything planned we got moved to Seattle to perform. It's going to be great. That will start at 11am and then the toso at 12. And, if you bring guests there'll be an info meeting while we're chanting. See you at 11am; it will be GREAT!

Someone from FNCC sent this Guidance from Pascaul Olivera.
____________________________________________________________
Pascual's fight to overcome his illness purified him. I could almost see right through him. If he lives another 10 years, the achievements of those around him will be phenomena without explanation.

I heard Pascual say that you cannot run from your fundamental darkness, your core beliefs, even if you chant & THINK you believe in Buddhism, your core beliefs can be diametrically opposed to the truth of Buddhist teachings
& overcoming what holds you back in life from becoming absolutely victorious.
He said that we should pray to see our fundamental darkness clearly & face it squarely. Because if we should continue to run from from it, from the things we're afraid of, avoid our core beliefs which created our problems in the first place, they just get stronger, fear gets stronger.

Running from weaknesses is like training devilish functions to become Olympic athletes. We run & the devils run after us until they're so strong that we're afraid to turn around & see them. He said we have to stop & look directly at them & walk through them. That's when their power source is cut; it weakens them when we turn & face them - taking Nam-Myoho-renge-kyo is pouring the strength back into our lives & leaves not a drop of fear for these destructive functions to survive on. We do it even though, initially, it may be with every ounce of our being that we turn & walk forward through them, but that by doing that it begins to cut their power, shifting our results from that of victim/avoider to victor over ourselves. We gain our own power back by chanting & seeing a "new scenario" in spite of what things around us look like.
Devilish functions, ALL things which drain our hope & life force - their purpose in life is to make us run in the wrong direction, any way but forward,& they feed on our old scenarios (core beliefs) about ourselves & our fears based on them & the limits of what we think is possible. We need to STOP RUNNING & face the obstacle, the core belief that our life is OK as it is & that running & avoiding problems is an OK way to live. These are "false beliefs" in terms of tapping our LIMITLESS life potential & these limits that we set are diametrically opposed to changing karma. Being a victim is diametrically opposed to living as a Buddha.

Pascual said this is the beginning of writing our new scenario. We need to BREAK the mold of what is NOT working for us in terms of "old scenarios" in the present moment. First we need to stop running...turn around & see with the COURAGE of our life force through Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo what has been "chasing us" all our life. We think the Gohonzon & chanting are our tools, but our problems are actually our tools. He said we worship (erroneously) the scaffoldings of our lives. The scaffoldings being what held us up before we began to chant, old beliefs/patterns that used to work
& helped us survive before. Even though we are weak, Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo makes us strong like a lion roaring & the problem, the old belief system, our limits, become like frightened small creatures. We need to tear down the scaffolding. Our problems begin to surface & we get stronger & stronger as we stop running & turn & face them one by one. Not easy!
Isolation & the four walls of our limitations are our home. Pascual said within this small room we need to look for the door when we chant & throw it open & pray about the life beyond that door. Not be afraid to see the impossible problem within our life changing into exactly what we want & we need to experience happiness in this existence. It ALL takes place internally first, when we chant. Prayer of what we want is the most important thing. REVOLUTION OF THOUGHT IS WHAT TRANSFORMS THE BODY, the poverty, whatever limits our imagination or our dreams, becoming reality.
The KEY is not wasting our time chanting for what we think is possible, but for what we think is impossible!!! If it's possible, it's too small a goal for Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo! Chant to make the impossible possible.

Again a little background. inMarianne Pearl whose husband Danny Pearl (the Journalist) has been held captive by kidnappers in Pakistan since last week, is a great friend of mine (practicing in Paris) and a strong member of the SGI for over 12 years.
I've just been forwarded this e-mail from Marianne's brother Satchi.
I will attempt a rough translation and enclose the original french after for

Satchi, here is my message. Can you send it to Kimson as well?
Thank you thank you
Dear friends,
In this critical moment, I deeply proud to be a member of our
organization, capable of manifesting a solidarity that is stronger than simple friendship and that unites us all in the same step to fight against the
injustice that affects us all, one way or another.I write to you on danny's
computer, now in held in captivity for 8 days now. We are awaiting a baby and found out it was a boy 2 days before he was kidnapped.
The first thing i wanted to share with you all is how much i am protected by the buddhist gods by the people who are around me during this trying time. i can't say much more about them but they are people of exceptional humanity and effectiveness.. the human relationships that are developing here are unique in the history of journalism as well as in the police. Without this protection, i don't know i could handle it. yesterday, on CNN, I talked to Danny's kidnappers. before the interview, I thought very hard about what President Ikeda and what he says about the power of dialogue as the sole force to achieve good. I was thus able to explain to the people who are threatening my husband that we are the complete opposite of what they are fighting against. that all of our work as journalists, human beings and buddhists (which I didn't explicitly mention for reasons you can surely understand) consists of an incessant effort to create a bridge that allows different cultures to understand one another better and to engage in a dialogue that would end the vicious cycle of conflicts and violence. i told them the truth and ended my message by saying that I was confident that they would release Danny with the intention to create such a vital dialogue. finally, i would like to tell you that my friend Asra, where I'm staying, has started chanting with me and said that she feels tremendous protection around us. That is all your daimoku.
i chant as much as possible but knowing that you are all there is my
real hope at this point. By chanting daimoku, i think about Nichiren
Daishonin at Tatsunokuchi calling out to the buddhist forces for protection to prove the validity of buddhism. Two phrases come to mind:
"turn the impossible into possible" "never give up, no matter what"
thank you to each of you and I have only one wish:
To share this victory with all of you!

The Breast Cancer site is having trouble getting enough people to click on it daily to meet their quota of donating at least one free mammogram a day to an underprivileged woman. It takes less than a minute to go to their site & click on "donating a mammogram" for free (pink window in the middle) their corporate sponsors/advertisers use the number of daily visits to donate a mammogram in exchange for advertising. Here's the web site.

Hi All! I thought I would share in case you might not have heard. This information came through the SGI and I thought I would share Jessie's message as well.

thank you for this wonderful news!!!! What a great victory for the SGI!

Mrs. Hachiya called Mrs. Elliot today and said that Sensei has mentioned that through the WD's tireless efforts, this result has come about. CONGRATULATIONS to all!!!

some of you may have seen this already....it just came over today from Mr. Saito (SGI PR) Today, January 31, following the advice of the Tokyo High Court, Nichiren Shoshu decided to discontinue the suit and reach a settlement with Soka Gakkai on the so-called "Seattle Incident". Comments by Soka Gakkai officials on the case will appear in tomorrow's edition of the Seikyo Shimbun.

Happy New Year everybody. We had our final Olympia District meeting for 2001 fri night at my house. We had a Gohonzon conferal, which was very exciting, and 3 YD guests!!! We do a time capsule every year and save it at our district house. My own determinations were mostly about growth of the district and while they were not completely fullfilled we do have 4 new WD in Olympia district since last year and several new YD who have been coming to meeting regularly, though they are not members yet. It is a very exciting time right now, alot of growth in all areas, which means lots more challenges for everybody. I am really looking forward to 2002 both as a year of both personal and organizational expansion.
I hope everyone knows that New Years Gongyo will be held at TCC at 9 and 11 am. Mr. Kataoka will be at the 9am Gongyo, which is specifically for Rainier area. (Tacoma is at 11 am.)See you all there. Sincerely, Marilyn Baker

Rochester is having their last meeting of the year this Saturday at 1p. We'll be pulling out our determinations from this year and making new ones. It's amazing how fast a year goes. I can't remember my determinations but this year was full of great and wonderful changes for me. I went to FNCC, bought a house, moved to Chehalis and had some tremendous personal growth. I'll have to be more specific this year (since we're saving them at the district house!) Happy New Year to all. Will someone post the New Years Gongyo schedule? Thanks, Sue

Happiest of Holidays to all of you out there.

New Years is really the time to Honinmyo for us. I celebrated my 28th anniversary with the Gohonzon yesterday. I feel so fortunate that at the beginning of my adult life I met such compassionate people who had unlimited courage to share Buddhism with me. I realized early it was no coinsidence (sp?) at all that I met the Gohonzon. When I moved to Bellingham, Washington from Nevada my life was drifting without any compass. The ONLY people that I met in Bellingham were practicing Buddhists. Not an accident. I made the causes in my past lifetimes to be where I am today. In this I have no doubt. With no doubt I also know that all of us were together before. We are family. Happy Holidays from me to you!

Happy Holidays Everyone!

I missed the end of the year meeting because I was in Portland that weekend.

Could someone give us all a grand update on the Year End meeting in Tacoma?

Do you all have your last years determinations wrapped up for 2001? I am always examining mine this time of year more carefully (I usually look at them almost daily to keep my direction)to see if I have any that I can do in the next 10 days before the new year. I think I made some progress this year and feel good about going into 2002.

I hope we can encourage many to post here and share our determinations and encouragement with each other.

I will shoot off some emails to remind people to post.

Hello everyone, it is just your friendly Vice YMD Region Leader here. Just wanted to make sure the word gets out about the year-end meeting at Curtis H.S. on the 15th Dec 01 @ 1100. It is going to be one of those meetings that will really get your blood pumping. Please invite everyone you can!!! Also if ya'll know of any youth that would like to be a part of "Crescendo" which is a version of "Stomp" but SGI-USA style, we will be meeting on the 16th of Dec 01 @1:00pm-4:00pm @TCC to practice. Anthony White our Zone YD Advisor will be assisting with the practices. These YD will be performing in Mid-Jan @ the Tacoma Dome. We rally need lots of YD that will be committed 100% and ready to chant lots of daimoku for the overwhelming victory we will have. Also, I would like to thank everyone who has been putting in so much effort into really supporting the YD. Without ya'll, none of our victories this year could have been possible. It is because of these efforts that I have wholeheartedly dedicated my life for the sake and happiness of all the members and for Kosen-Rufu. Thank you so much!!!:)

PS: Many Thanks To Sue Spencer for e-mailing me and giving me an oppurtunity to participate on this site. I will be in touch.

Tonite Dylan and I got a real conspicuous benefit. On Sunday when he went snowboarding he took his CD case with ALL of his CDs in it (oh about $300 worth.)Well, needless to say he didn't come home with them. He has been stewing for a couple of days. His friend that he went with said he didn't have them and the other two guys who went said the same. Dylan has a history of losing things. Well, long story short on my way home tonite I called the kid's mom who drove them up and asked her about them, but she too didn't think they had them. So I chanted all the way home and when I got home I told Dylan that I thought he should chant about it too - what did he have to lose! At 10:00 as I was about to head up to do gongyo the phone rang, it was the kid's mom and she had found them. I went in to wake Dylan to tell him they were found and told him I had chanted about them then he said he had chanted too. Glad he could get the benefit. I hope he realizes it. Don't ya just love even those quicky conspicuous benefits!!!

We had such a great District meeting in Rochester on Saturday. We had a segment of the meeting where we turned to someone we didn't know very well to have a heart-to-heart discussion. I really felt so good from talking and listening to Joellen, she was my discussion partner. After that Debbie gave us all a golden heart on a chain to mark the occasion. I have mine hanging in my car from the visor. It reminds me of that special dialogue and motivates me to talk with other people. Thanks Debbie what a generous gift.
Lets remind everyone to check out this message board often.

By for now. Rebecca

Hello everyone,
I attended the fantastic Rochester General Meeting yesterday and Rebecca encouraged me to get on the new web page message board so here goes: Next Sunday December 9th from 1-3 PM at the Seattle Culture Center, the Culture Dept is sponsoring a yearend general meeting -- open to all -- focusing on the book "For the Sake of Peace" and also using several movie clips such as Gandhi, the VOV video, and MLKing's I Have a Dream speech to promote dialogue sessions. If any one needs a ride, I have room in my car.
Spread the word -- and yes, guests are welcome. Art

Marilyn told me today that Kosen Rufu Gongyo will be on Tuesday, December 4, 2001 at the Lacey Community Center.
In case anyone didn't hear about the change. Mark your calendars.

PS I am having a Girls party Friday (11/30) evening at 6:30. It is masquerading as a "Crystal Party" but to me it is a reason to decorate for the holidays and clean and enjoy all the women I know so come on out if you dont know where I live ask me I can provide directions.

This is from the WT e-mail express:

In the conclusion of his speech at the 10th Soka Gakkai Headquarters Leaders Meeting, held at the Tokyo Makiguchi Memorial Hall in Hachioji, Oct. 11, SGI President Ikeda says: "Let us work and talk together in this lifetime, Nichiren Daishonin says, and after death, too, let us talk
together on Eagle Peak.

"Throughout eternity, we will converse with one another, encourage one another and advance together toward happiness. This is the way of fellow members who share in the struggle for kosen-rufu. We must not allow the ill-intentioned who seek to exploit our organization, or the malicious who wish to torment the Buddha's children, or the treacherous who have no sense of gratitude or appreciation, to enter this beautiful world of the SGI.

"The SGI's advance is defined by our unity as members who are striving earnestly to introduce others to the Daishonin's Buddhism, to promote the activities of our organization, which has inherited the Buddha's intent
and decree, and to realize a world without war.

"The teachings of Buddhism enable us to view things based on the three existences of life -- past, present and future -- and to advance cheerfully along the valuable, noble path of peace, happiness and triumph.
"Let us not complain about petty things. We cannot let ourselves be discouraged by a little hardship. And we must never abandon our faith. To do so would be an act of cowardice and betrayal.
"Let us lead lives of eternal victory, indestructible lives of unshakable conviction. This is the most meaningful life a human being can live. There is no greater teaching than Buddhism. A life that embodies the teachings of Buddhism is a life of ultimate value."

I am happy to see new information here. If everyone will continue to post and retrieve information from here it can be a very valuable tool.

Thanks goes to Jessie for posting great encouragement. Thanks to Fil for putting the schedule on here!

Congratulations to all of our newly appointed Youth Division Leaders. Fil could you possibly list them here?

Please be sure to pass the address for the message board on to any and all members in the Olympia area or larger radius if you like.

Prayers for each other will give us the unity and compassion we always thrive on. I can always feel when someone is investing daimoku in me. I can not describe the feeling but know it is conspicuous.

Have a good weekend. Who is going to see "Harry Potter"?

Below is a message from Matilda today after hearing of the plane crash in NY.
Jessie

Thank you all for all the great care you are giving right now. I wanted
to share this guidance from Sensei's Oct. 11th speech that is contained in
this month's video. I heard it right after learning the news of the
plane crash in New York. It immediately pulled me from schock and dread
into Sensei's vision and confidence. Yoshiko and I were greatly
encouraged to hear Patricia Kasahara's strong, resolute voice as she
reported that members were calling in to say they were safe. New Yorkers
are amazing through all our crisis and challenges. We have more and more
opportunity to have dialogues with many, many people. Sensei's guidance
is so great.

Pres. Ikeda has recently said that the surest way to break out of the
current chaos is for human beings themselves to change, and the first
step is to reach out and engage in dialogue that is intended to transcend
difference. He said in doing this we are spreading dialogue for peace
throughout the world. This is a great undertaking, and the existence
each of us towards this is so important. Each of you are so importnat in
giving courage and confidence to our members. Thank you for all the
extraordinary efforts you are making right now.

Welcome friends:

After talking with many of my SGI USA friends over this past wonderful weekend we agreed it would be very helpful to find an internet messageboard to use for sharing information. I have now established this and will try to keep it managed.

Each new message will be at the top of the message board when you open the site. Also there is a place to post a reponse to each message and YOU must approve your message before it will be posted. Thanks for giving it a try.

A few things we can use it for are:

Scheduling and schedule changes - available to any and all who have access to internet.

Sharing experiences

Asking questions of our friends to gain valuable answers

The list could go on and on. Please post any other ideas you may have that we can use this for.

Thanks for any and all patience you will need while we get this ball rolling!!!

Rebecca,
Thank you so much for these pictures! It was such an amazing weekend and
I am so encouraged by the tremendous growth of each and everyone of the
women in attendance at this lovely women's retreat.
Words can not express my deep appreciation to all of you who worked so
hard to prepare this amazing and most significant retreat, studying
Sensei's "For the Sake of Peace" and truly as the formost of Women's
Peace Activist movement, the women of the SGI are leading the way!!!
CONGRATULATIONS again!!!

I'm sure that after singing "I have a Dream" to those lovely women
sharing our meals with us over the weekend from the the Bellevue church,
we all feel so much more determined to share our message of peace and
work together with our fellow sisters in our communities. This is truly
the time for all of us to awaken to our mission as Boddhisattvas of the
Earth and as Matilda shared in her message, "the women of the SGI are
profoundly sensitive to the needs of the times and are courageously
taking action to transform society in the only place that matters - in
the individual life of the human being."

I wanted to let you all know that at the Sun. meeting at the Seattle
Culture Center, we were able to announce 128 Youth leaders - it was
electrifying to watch each of these precious Youth stand up one after
another! What a great future we have in these incredible Youth, let's
take great care of each and everyone of them!

Again, thank you so very much for all your sincere efforts!

Most Sincerely,

Jessie :)
