thanks. My plan - if I actually go through with this - was just for the greenhouses at the moment. I haven't the tools/resources (or knowledge) to take on the open cropland right now, which is overgrown and neglected - from the looks of it anyway.

As far as heating goes - I can't afford it. At this point of the year, i'd only be growing veggies with high tolerance (hardiness) for cold weather conditions, and to get my feet wet. From what I hear, kale, spinach, broccoli, lettuce, radish, etc hold up well in adverse conditions in greenhouses and hoop-houses, with no heat.

There's a NFP business in Milwaukee Wisconsin that does it ("Growing Power"). Again, if I actually decide to go through with it, I may go up there to get a few pointers or possibly volunteer to get hands on experience.
