he's got his left hand gripped around the back of the seat, which may form the illusion that it's the gap between a thumb and index-finger of a right hand. If you zoom in, you'll see the wedding ring and that his pinkie is draped down the back of the chair.

It looks awkward, yes, but if you're right and it is someone's right hand, then it means that someone put their wedding ring on their index finger (unless people started wearing gold bands on their index-finger)
