"Cutting edge" is very often not funny. But I did see some old black and white film composite of his bits in some Greenwich Village theatre, about one or two lifetimes ago.
It had some laughs. A guy looking for God inside a Mezzuzah (Jewish religious door decorations). A guy in an ambulance gets hot and hits on the nurse tending to his wounds. Some laughs. Not alot. And that was supposed to be his best stuff. I also saw the Dustin Hoffman bio-flick. Meh. I hope I'm not confusing the two in my old memory.. But neither one had lotsa laughs.

I saw a real young Chris Rock do stand up. Much funnier. Except his AID's jokes. Those were cutting edge I guess, but not funny.
