Subject: Arain Foster might need back surgery

Houston Texans RB Arian Foster (back, hamstring) missed his third straight practice Friday, Nov. 8, and has been ruled out for Week 10 against the Arizona Cardinals.

Interim head coach Wade Phillips said Foster has seen multiple specialists for his back injury, but there is no timetable for his recovery. RB Ben Tate will start and is expected to see the bulk of the workload. RB Dennis Johnson is expected to spell Tate, and Houston is leaning toward using RB Deji Karim as the third running back.

Foster is reportedly dealing with a disc problem in his back. He'll receive treatment from a specialist in hopes of avoiding season-ending surgery.
