Subject: Conviction in the Sean Taylor murder

Eric Rivera was convicted of second-degree murder nearly six years following the death of Taylor after being shot during a burglary attempt at Taylor's home in Florida.

Rivera faced first-degree murder charges, but the jury � after a 16-hour deliberation � convicted him on the lesser charge of second-degree murder and he still could be sentenced to life in prison.

Prosecutors said Rivera, who was 17 years old at the time, and four other men attempted to rob Taylor of thousands of dollars they believe he had at his house. When they broke in, they were met to their surprise by Taylor, his girlfriend and their 18-month daughter, who were staying at the house. Rivera then shot Taylor in the leg, with the bullet hitting his femoral artery, a wound that would kill him the following day.

Taylor played six years for the Redskins and made two Pro Bowls and was named All Pro once.
