All teams tried to pick a name that showed their teams fighting spirit. Lots of college teams use animal names like Wolverines, Razorbacks, or have names that show a destructive force like Hurricanes, Tornadoes.

Whoever named the Redskins back whenever I'm sure tried to pick a name he thought best represented a group of people that would fight till the end. Hews that derogatory?

How boring names would be if they were all like the Early Dallas Texans team name.

The Washington Virginians.
The New York New Yorkers.
The Buffalo New Yorkers
ect. ect. ect.
