Hey Bryan - to be honest with you, I consider myself new to guitar also. No are pedals involved. Actually, JP makes fun of me for not muting the notes correctly (I'll never get it right - I'm so jealous of him). Basically, I pick the strings the way you normally would, but almost instantly pull my fretting finger off the board while still touching the string. This allows the note to ring for only a split second before it becomes muted. Although technically it isn't the stuff rockets are made of, it's how I get the sound. Hope that helps ~Cor
