Okay, did you read the Data files? That gives some history about the plot and is useful if you are confused.
The plot is that space-travelling earthlings got caught in a wormhole, transporting them to the Sol solar system. (the star is Sol)
These people formed a colony upon Venhydra, the planet most like earth, and began their own goverment. After a few years a group of rebels seperated from the original government (called the United Federation) and formed their own colony upon Tanari. (rebels called the Planetary Alliance)
Apparently, the Federation government was overpowering, and now the Alliance and Federation are at war.

The current status is:
After much fighting in which the Tanari Hall was destroyed, the Feds somehow dissapeared from Venhydra, leaving the planet free for the Rebels to sieze, which they did.
Now, the Rebels are upon Venhydra, and the Feds are stuck with the ruined hall on the desert planet Tanari.
A group of Feds, which have suddenly returned are now attacking the Rebels so that they may sieze their planet back.
