Yesterday I wrote:

..... This is in addition:
3) There is the paperback book (1968) "The Joys of Yiddish" by Leo Rosten, ISBN=0-671-72813-X. Note the Appendix with additional ites starting, alphabetically, with Anointing, Ashkenazim and Sephardim in the United States, Bar Kochba and Akiba, Bible: Notes, Cabala, etc.
4) Then there is a hard-cover book (2001) "The new joys of yiddish", completely updated, by the same author. The ISBN is 0-609-60785-5, based on his 1968 book. It includes a dictionary, but the appendix is missing.
5) Another hard-cover book (1968) "The Joys of Yiddish. A relaxed lexicon of Yiddish, Hebrew and Yinglish words often encountered in English, plus dozens that ought to be, with serendiptous excursions into Jewish humor, habits, holidays, history, religion, ceremonies, folklore, and cuisine; the whole generously garnished with stories, anecdotes, epigrams, Talmudic quotations, folk sayings and joke - from the days of the Bible to those of the beatnik." by the same author. There is no ISBN mentioned; the publisher was the McGraw-Hill Book Company.
By the way, the (1968) paperback contains this meaning of the phrase "alter kocker": a crotchety, fussy, ineffectual old man, i.e., "old fart". I would have translated it instead as (excuse my language) "old shitter".
Happy reading!
