The latest version of the ICF rules deal specifically with this: no, you cannot.

NZ: I haven't seen it yet (doesn't mean it hasn't happened!) Definately worth discussing.
As a ref, in light of ICF clarification, and the ideal that only one player attempts for the ball, I might consider it unsportsmanlike, additionally I do not think it fits with the intended spirit of rules.

I have heard some people have experimented with assisting the charge-starting player, but decided that the unbalancing caused by the external pushing negated any gains that may have been made.
