Hi guys
I don't much like the Acrobat, which is why I didn't say much about it. Doesn't mean I think it's rubbish though. When it first came out, I thought it was absolutely brilliant - not just because it was a boat that performed reasonably well, but because it was a *plastic* boat that performed reasonably well, and therefore offered a huge improvement over the Combatt, especially to people like schools and clubs who would want to buy robust boats in bulk. And when I see how many Acrobats are being used around the country, it seems to have been a success. Plus it may have helped stimulate the development of the Cyclone, and I wonder if its success played a factor in the development of the Eskimo Gecko as well. There is obviously a market for these things (aided in part by people like me who don't relish fixing their boats). This plurality of options is a good thing, and allows for exactly the kind of evaluation we are carrying out here, and lets the discerning player choose the boat that suits their play.
I've been playing in an Acrobat for the last 3 weeks, and my recent experience there obviously influences my opinion. If I had to choose between that and a Cyclone, unlike your guys up north, I'd pick the Cyclone, but that's just me, and reflects what I'm used to (more time in an Acrobat could conceivably change my mind - but I doubt it). I'd probably like the Acrobat more if I was able to kit one out to my own satisfaction - that would at least take the pain out of my knobbly knees, for instance, and probably improve my perception (no pun intended) of its performance.
One thing I will point out is that I personally have never seen an Acrobat get broken in a tackle, but it's happened to me more than once in a lightweight Cyclone. I think that particular lightweight formula still needs a little work.
Cheers,
- Dean
