It would seem that the left hand carb (as you’re looking into the engine compartment of a 1500s) is flooding cylinders 3 & 4 and they are consequently not firing on tick over. However, when driving normally there does not appear to be a problem and the car runs fine without any hesitation.

I’ve checked that it’s firing and I’ve set the timing points and redone the valve clearances and am pretty confident that it’s flooding that is my problem as No4 plug is wet and smells of fuel also the car smokes ones you blip the throttle after it’s ticked over for a second or so (I’ve assuming this is the unburnt fuel simply being expelled. You can actually remove HT leads 3 & 4 and the engine sounds no different.

I’ve rebuilt both carbs and I guess I could have messed up somewhere along the lines but both were done the same.

What’s your advice? Have you ever experienced anything similar?

I heard that these carbs are still available new from Mexico or Brazil but I may have dreamt it…failing that would you have one that’s ok?

Keep smilin

Kris

Oh any sign of that tow bar? (Waiting for a sill as well but no rush as the car needs to run first : )
