i purchased this fastback with a clangging noise at idle on its original 1600 motor, decided to upgrade motor to 1776, exchanged all necessary components between the two and noise remained. tried welding the fan, noise stopped for a day, then returned. purchased a, shot to hell square, but still running, checked the fan no clangging, so i went through with the exchange of shrouds, and fans, and now the fan is rubbing although the clangging noise is gone. the original shroud has marks like the fan went through the rubbing process, then eventually shaved off enough material to clear, and hence the clangging noise begins.
is there something im forgetting? was there a part that the original owner neglected to put on during the process of removal, and instalation, prior to my purchasing the vehicle? what does anyone think? please help been trying to solve this problem for like forever!! followed the "robert bentley volkswagen official service manual fast and squareback 1968-1973" section 3, ppg. 13-15.
vehicle is a 1968 vw type3 fastback w/ a 4speed swing axle, and a 1776 w/ rear engine mount not the hanger. i am so stumped on this problem if anyone can please provide any info pretaining to this issue please i will greatly appreciate it.
