The ECU is normally the last part to check on the fuel injection system. It really isn't that complex system once you understand it.
Are you sure its the injectors that aren't firing?

A really good resorce is to post messages onto 'the list'. its a T3 mailing list that is extreemly helpfull with some real experts who post there. You can find it at www.vwtype3.org. My injection was up the spout when I bought the car but now I wouldn't swap it for anything. Don't fall into the trap of replacing it for carbs as once its working you'll have problem free driving.
