When they start flashing fast get out of the car and check that both front and rear indicators are flashing, I bet one of the has a bad connection and stops working, which will make the other one flash much faster.

The quickest way to check for a charging problem is to remove one of the battery terminals when the car is running and if it cuts out you have a charging problem.
