Friday, April 15, 2005

Kingsville--Texas A&M University-Kingsville senior Robert Hamilton was recently named All-South Central Region by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) and honorable mention All-American by the Division II Bulletin.

Hamilton, a senior from Texas City, was one of six players from the South Central Region to earn first team honors. Hamilton earned honorable mention All-American honors for the second straight year when the NABC recognized him on its All-American team recently.

Hamilton was one of the most dominating forces in the Lone Star Conference again this season. He averaged 16.2 points and 10.8 rebounds per game, becoming just the fifth player in TAMUK school history to average a double-double for a season. He had 17 double-doubles, scored in double figures 23 times, had nine 20-point games and 18 double-digit rebound games as a senior. He finished second in the Lone Star Conference, and eighth nationally in rebounding, was fourth in the LSC in steals (1.8), eighth in scoring and second in minutes played (36.9).

In his TAMUK career Hamilton scored 998 points, an average of 17.2 per game; pulled down 511 rebounds, an average of 8.8 per contest and hit on 50.6 percent of his shots from the field (417-824), firmly establishing himself as one of the Javelinas all-time greats. Over the last two years with Hamilton on the squad, TAMUK won 36 games, advanced to the LSC Tournament twice and reached the NCAA South Central Region Tournament in 2004.

Hamilton has earned numerous awards this season. Previous to this announcement he was named LSC Preseason Player of the Year, honorable mention ABCA preseason All-American, Daktronics All-South Central Region, first team All-Lone Star Conference South Division and earned LSC South Division Player of the Week honors twice.

TAMUK went 17-11 this past season and advanced to the LSC Tournament for the second straight year, falling 61-58 to Tarleton State, who is in the NCAA Division II South Central Region Field. The Javs won two games against top-five teams, defeating Texas A&M-Commerce and Southwestern Oklahoma State.
