Condescension's mocking hands
hold spoonfuls of things we lack.

Sometimes there are ways to avoid
the flavor of bad combinations:

Scrape inside out with a dull spoon,
gouge rough and sometimes falsely,

sample just once a series of ingredients
that never sufficiently combined.

Sometimes Cards of judgement
display the quick and dirty rules to go by.

They are comfortably familiar;
point out every nuance of the difference.

Sometimes when the world poses as fair
the cards might fall to the ground, useless.

We think we could give away samples then
as though they were worth something.

Sometimes there is too much in me
that anticipates these times.
