I am pretty sure this Thomas was the son of my David born around 1803, and married to Sarah (prob. Garside) probably in Lancashire, about 1835. This Thomas and his wife Hannah, immigrated to the U.S. He is my Grandfathers grandfather. I am not 100 percent certain of Thomas' siblings. Family names are William, David, Herbert, Grace, Rosalie, Howard Russell, James Harrison & Floyd. Thomas's son Matthew appears to have been named for his maternal grandfather, Matthew Handford.
I hope this clarifies a little for you John - I have not seen any Philemons relating to this particular branch.
My records show that Philemon married Ann Shirt, in 1773, at Castleton. not sure his year of birth, but assuming he was 20 - age of birth around 1753 - and assuming he was part of the Castleton Rowbottoms, probably a son of one of these? both families are from Castleton - if he is not a son of one of these, I imagine he is at least a nephew or related to one or both families
